About the position
The Behavioral Health Assistant at Bartlett Regional Hospital plays a crucial role in supporting the Nursing Administration team by ensuring the safety and treatment of patients in a behavioral health setting. This entry-level position involves facilitating patient participation in activities, encouraging personal care, and utilizing behavioral health techniques to manage patient interactions. The role requires close supervision and involves various responsibilities related to patient care and documentation.
Responsibilities
- Assisting staff in the care and treatment of patients.
- Admitting and discharging patients from the assigned behavioral health unit.
- Performing and documenting per protocol 15-minute ambulatory observation checks.
- Documenting and monitoring patient personal property.
- Observing and documenting all pertinent and/or abnormal interactions and behaviors.
- Assisting with food service delivery.
- Taking and recording Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) readings.
- Obtaining urine specimens for testing.
- Completing data entry tasks and clerical duties as assigned.
- Responding appropriately to telephone calls.
- Conducting patient observation.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must obtain 10 hours of education related to Mental Health and/or addictions within four months of hire and annually.
- One year of experience working directly with the public providing a service or one year of experience working with patients or clients diagnosed with addiction or mental illness.
- Preference for applicants with experience working with persons experiencing mental health, addiction, or behavioral health challenges.
- A minimum of twelve college credits in Psychology, Sociology, Mental Health, or Chemical Dependency can substitute for the required year of experience.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider CPR or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification within ninety days of hire.
- Completion of TEAM & Behavioral Emergency Response Team (BERT) training within ninety days of hire.
