About the position

The Behavioral Health Counselor position at Berks Counseling Center involves providing integrated treatment to clients with behavioral and physical health needs. The role focuses on delivering clinical treatment modalities, conducting assessments, and developing individualized treatment plans in a recovery-oriented environment. The counselor will work within a dynamic team to support clients struggling with addiction and mental health issues, promoting a healthy and productive lifestyle.

Responsibilities

  • Provide integrated treatment supporting the needs of both behavioral and physical health care to clients.
  • Conduct screening, assessment, and evaluation of potential clients under supervision if holding a bachelor's degree.
  • Provide individual, group, and/or family counseling under supervision if holding a bachelor's degree.
  • Effectively assess client treatment needs and develop a comprehensive individualized integrated treatment plan.
  • Complete clinical documentation that meets compliance standards, medical necessity guidelines, and agency standards as to timeliness and accuracy of documentation.
  • Maintain weekly direct service hours as designated by supervisor.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in a related social service field.
  • At least three (3) months of direct counseling and substance abuse counseling experience (or relevant internship).
  • A Pennsylvania Certification Board (PCB) certification (CRS, CAC, or CADS) or the ability to obtain it within 1 year of employment.
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week within agency hours of operation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Be Bilingual: English/Spanish.
  • Knowledge of or experience with trauma-informed approaches.
  • Knowledge of assessment and treatment of behavioral health disorders.
  • Knowledge of community services available to low-income, high-risk populations.
  • Experience in documenting clinical needs clearly, concisely, and in a timely manner.
