About the position

The Behavioral Health Director provides direct patient care services as well as leadership and oversight to a team of doctorate and master level clinicians providing integrated behavioral health services to adults and children. This role requires strong supervisory and mentorship skills. The Director will oversee monitoring and improvement of integrated behavioral health services, working closely with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and the Director of Quality, Risk, Compliance and Safety to meet or exceed patient outcomes. The Director will be responsible for conducting performance audits of Behavioral Health Providers. The Director will report to the CMO, be a member of the Joint Leadership Committee, and will promote the organization's integrated care model through collaboration with leaders and providers. The Director will monitor and lead improvements to targets, productivity and outcomes for the program. Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care to include screening, consultation, short-term individual, family and group therapy to address mental health, substance abuse, and health behavior concerns of adult and pediatric patients.
  • Work with clinical teams ('pods') to provide ready access to behavioral health (BH) support during clinical operations for brief interventions and crisis support.
  • Assist medical providers in recognizing, treating and managing mental health and psychosocial issues and act as a contributing member of the primary care team.
  • Consult with medical providers to enhance understanding of patients, provide decision support for treatment planning and assist in the implementation and monitoring of biopsychosocial treatment plans.
  • Work with the medical providers collaboratively and within scope of practice to assist in psychotropic medication management and to foster adherence with prescribed treatments.
  • Administer such behavioral/mental health assessments as necessary to diagnose and/or provide objective function measurement as necessary.
  • Assist in the detection of 'at risk' clients and in the development of comprehensive treatment plans in collaboration with Primary Care Providers, nursing, and care managers.
  • Provide leadership to behavioral health (BH) team to include mentoring, training, and professional development.
  • Define scope of practice and lead the development of clinical protocols to ensure high quality service across all clinics.
  • Lead a comprehensive care coordination process to include risk stratification, prioritization of resources and the use of coordinated care plans for high-risk patients to improve patient outcomes.
  • Lead clinical audits of BH providers to ensure timely submission of treatment plans and other clinical documentation.
  • Provide feedback to clinicians on treatment plans, goals, and outcome measures.
  • Lead peer review among BH providers to support the re-privileging process.
  • Lead the credentialing and privileging process for BH providers to include the on-going peer review of clinical care.
  • Collaborate with CMO and leadership team in identifying needs and opportunities within MarillacHealth's service area for BH services.
  • Participate in the formation of strategic goals.
  • Represent MarillacHealth in developing relationships with local partners (CMHCs, social services) to increase inter-agency collaboration and improve patient access to needed services.
  • Conduct organization-wide training to assist employees to better understand and address patient mental health needs.
  • Recruit and retain qualified BH providers.
  • Maintain job descriptions.
  • Assess and document employee performance and address performance issues in a timely manner.
  • Work with the Chief Medical Officer and Director of Operations to assure adequate staffing and efficient day-to-day operations of the Behavioral Health Providers within the clinics.
  • Approve scheduled and unscheduled absences for direct reports.
  • Oversee the behavioral health aspects of substance abuse treatment.
  • Collaborate with CMO and leadership team to anticipate future need for BH services for the organization's target population.
  • Develop efficient pathways for BH integration and work with clinic and leadership teams to identify and develop needed BH services and programs.
  • Collaborate with CMO to devise optimal practice models, evidence-based care protocols and ideal staffing models.
  • Assess effectiveness of BH programs and assist clinical teams with continuous quality/process improvement.
  • Assist in the development of work plans and budgets related to grant proposals.
  • Lead the development and implementation of policies, procedures and protocols appropriate to patient care and referrals.
  • Work in collaboration with billing and operations to develop and implement behavioral/mental health documentation, coding and billing processes.
  • Lead development of Mental Health and Health Education materials for patients, staff and providers.
  • Ensure that the best interests of the organization are maintained.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a Clinical Mental Health discipline, i.e., Psychology, Counseling, Marriage & Family therapy, Human Services, Clinical Social Work, or Psychiatric Nursing from an accredited university or college.
  • Demonstrated experience of 2 years supervising clinical delivery of behavioral health clinical teams.
  • Demonstrated experience of 2 years supervising behavioral Health programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in an integrated primary care clinic.
  • Experience working with clientele from diverse cultural backgrounds-particularly those with limited socioeconomic resources.
  • Minimum of two years verified post master's experience providing mental health treatment including psychotherapy, counseling, and assessment. Experience must include treatment of children.
  • Licensed in the State of Colorado as Licensed Professional Counselor, LMFT, LCSW, Licensed Psychologist, or equivalent.
