About the position

The Behavioral Health Outpatient Therapist at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission is a part-time role focused on providing therapeutic services to clients with emotional, behavioral, and mental health disorders. The therapist operates independently, conducting assessments, formulating treatment plans, and delivering various forms of therapy including individual, family, couples, and group therapy. This position also involves case management, education, and collaboration with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care for patients.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct interviews, screenings, testing, and risk assessments to evaluate patients' mental conditions.
  • Formulate treatment plans based on assessments and DSM-5 criteria.
  • Provide individual, family, couples, and group therapy sessions as needed.
  • Utilize evidence-based interventions to assist patients and families in coping with psychosocial aspects of illness.
  • Intervene in urgent and emergent mental health crises using de-escalation techniques.
  • Consult with physicians and other healthcare staff to facilitate treatment progress and continuity of care.
  • Maintain accurate records of therapeutic interventions and document in medical records according to standards.
  • Make timely referrals to community agencies and develop relationships to ensure service delivery.
  • Assess patients for behavioral health needs and provide provisional diagnoses as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, clients, and family members regarding treatment and progress.
  • Promote community partnerships and enhance relationships with community organizations.
  • Participate in meetings, conferences, and workshops as required.
  • Initiate projects to improve clinic performance and patient care.
  • Educate community agencies about available resources and services.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in social work, counseling, psychology, marriage and family therapy, or clinical psychology.
  • Two years of position-related experience.
  • State Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board License - Advanced Clinical License.
  • Knowledge of independent licensure requirements and relevant laws.

Nice-to-haves

  • Five years of position-related experience.
  • Experience in billing and coding.
  • Experience treating both substance use and mental health disorders.
