About the position

The Public Relations Manager for the San Bernardino County Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) is responsible for overseeing the Public Relations and Outreach Services unit. This role involves managing high-profile incidents, advising executive management on public and community relations matters, and maintaining effective relationships with the media. The incumbent will develop, implement, and evaluate communication strategies to promote the Department, while also supervising staff and managing outreach efforts and media campaigns.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the Public Relations and Outreach Services unit.
• Handle high-profile incidents with discretion and judgement.
• Advise executive management on public and community relations matters.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate communication strategies and plans.
• Direct and coordinate division/program planning and budget development.
• Prepare press releases and oversee community outreach and education.
• Address community groups and the public on behalf of the Department.
• Collaborate with the County Chief Communications Office and Public Information Officer.
• Supervise staff through subordinate supervisors, including hiring and disciplinary actions.
• Manage and provide leadership for Department publications and media assets.

Requirements

• Three years of full-time, professional level administrative experience in communication strategies for a public agency.
• At least two years of full-scope supervisory experience in a public relations setting.
• A Bachelor's Degree in public/business administration, accounting, finance, or a closely related field.
