About the position
The Behavioral Health Specialist plays a crucial role in providing direct patient care under the supervision of healthcare professionals. This position focuses on ensuring patient comfort, safety, and effective communication between patients and nursing staff, while adhering to the policies and regulations of Bon Secours Mercy Health.
Responsibilities
- Provides basic patient care including comfort, vital sign measurement, personal hygiene, and mobility assistance.
- Acts as a liaison between patients and nurses to report changes or concerns.
- Delivers high-level customer service to patients, families, visitors, and staff.
- Documents patient care accurately and timely when applicable.
- Participates in hand-off/report of pertinent patient information upon shift changes.
- Performs delegated tasks once competency is validated.
- Completes patient rounding and 15-minute checks as assigned.
- Provides 1:1 patient safety companion service as needed.
- May collect patient data within the scope of the role.
- May facilitate groups and participate in treatment teams and family meetings.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED (required)
- 1 year of experience in a mental health or healthcare setting (preferred)
- BLS Basic Life Support certification (preferred upon hire)
- State Tested Nursing Aide (STNA) certification (preferred)
- Certified Nursing Aide (CNA) certification (preferred)
- Registered Social Work Assistant (SWA) certification (preferred)
- Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant (CDCA) certification (preferred)
- Counselor in Training certification (preferred)
- Human Services-Board Certified Practitioner (HS-BCP) certification (preferred)
- American Association of Psychiatric Technicians (AAPT) certification (preferred)
