About the position

The Behavioral Health Technician plays a crucial role in providing direct patient care for individuals with addiction, behavioral issues, or mental health challenges. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the technician ensures a safe and supportive environment, actively engages with patients, and addresses significant care issues as they arise. This position is essential in promoting patient well-being and collaborating with healthcare teams to deliver quality care.

Responsibilities

  • Perform direct patient care activities for patients with addiction and behavioral problems.
  • Provide positive interactions and maintain a safe environment to maximize patient well-being.
  • Notify the manager of any significant patient care issues.
  • Work in cooperation with other healthcare providers to ensure quality and safe care to patients.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Minimum of one-year college experience in Behavioral Health, Allied Health, Psychology, or a related field.
  • At least one year of Behavioral Health Technician experience or applicable experience such as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
  • Two or more years of experience as a Behavioral Health Technician in an inpatient psychiatric or addiction medicine setting preferred.
  • Ability to physically manage patients safely and therapeutically.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, providing comfort and support.
  • Analytical skills to assess patients and gather relevant data for care.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a psychiatric or addiction medicine setting.
  • Additional certifications in behavioral health or related fields.
