About the position

Arlington County Government is creating a talent pool for the Behavioral Healthcare Division in the field of Outpatient Clinical Services, Mental Health - Substance Abuse, Community Support Teams, ACT Teams, Residential and Specialized Programs Services, Forensic & Homeless Services, Client Entry Services and Jail-Based Services. The Behavioral Health Division is responsible for providing comprehensive, trauma informed, and culturally responsive mental health and substance use services to help young adults/adults function adequately in the community. Services are provided in the home, community, and the office. The Department of Human Services (DHS) is an integrated department with over 700 employees who strive to make a real difference in people's lives by providing outstanding human services to include public heath, adult behavioral health, child and family services, aging and disability services, and economic independence services. The Behavioral Health Therapist will work with all levels to embed these values in the delivery of services provided to our customers. Responsibilities

  • Conducting evaluations or assessments of clients; collecting and researching psychosocial history information; and determining the need for psychological assessment.
  • Developing, implementing, and evaluating treatment plans based on diagnosis of client, incorporating a variety of information from interviews, family members, other persons involved with client, other care providers, court records, etc.
  • Providing clinical treatment/therapy to individuals/groups/families with one or more presenting diagnoses.
  • Determining the most effective and efficient (time and cost) modes of treatment to implement, utilizing evidence-based practices where indicated.
  • Preparing and managing treatment and/or case management records and files; participating on treatment team and/or in staff meetings.
  • Documenting, in writing and according to standards, all treatment needs and services delivered, using the electronic health record.
  • Providing information/consults with other professionals concerning diagnoses and treatment.

Requirements

  • Possess one of the following professional licenses from the Virginia Department of Health Professions: LPC, LCP, LMFT, or LCSW for Licensed position.
  • Possess a license in a jurisdiction other than Virginia and are performing supervised assessment and evaluation, diagnostic, treatment planning, case management and counseling work while awaiting licensure from the Virginia Department of Health Professions for Non-VA Licensed position.
  • Perform supervised assessment and evaluation, diagnostic, treatment planning, case management, and counseling work as a trainee to obtain one of the following professional licenses related to a behavioral health discipline in the state of Virginia for Resident/Supervisee position.
  • Completion of the requirements for obtaining a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a clinical discipline such as Counseling, Psychiatric Social Work, Psychology, Art Therapy, or other directly related clinical discipline with internships and practicum requirements specified by the Virginia Department of Health Professions.
