About the position

The Behavior Intervention Specialist (BIS) position at YAI involves clinical responsibilities focused on assessing and addressing the habilitative, behavioral, and psychiatric needs of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). The BIS will work under supervision to develop and implement effective interventions across multiple programs, ensuring that the clinical needs of individuals are met and that staff are trained in person-centered approaches.

Responsibilities

  • Assess individuals' habilitative, behavioral, and psychiatric needs.
  • Develop and implement effective interventions to support individuals' needs.
  • Regularly interact with individuals to assess their activities of daily living (ADL) skills and provide personal care.
  • Promote habilitation and rehabilitation while ensuring health, safety, and well-being of individuals.
  • Train staff on person-centered interventions and program plans.
  • Collect and document data to support evaluations and maintain required documentation.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a clinical or treatment field related to psychology, social work, or applied psychology.
  • Documented training in assessment techniques and behavior support plan development.
  • Certification in Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention (SCIP-R) or SCIP-R Restrictive and CPR within six months of hire.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills, including experience with Workday and electronic health records.
  • Ability to meet essential physical demands of the position.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong understanding of intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) including autism spectrum disorders.
  • Knowledge of co-occurring psychiatric diagnoses such as mood disorders and anxiety disorders.
  • Familiarity with therapeutic effects of psychotropic medications.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based approaches like ABA, CBT, and DBT.
  • Current certification in SCIP-R or SCIP-R Restrictive and CPR.
  • National Board certification in behavior analysis (BCBA) or a license in Mental Health Counseling.
