About the position
GIFTED Healthcare is seeking a full-time School-Based Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) for the 2024/25 school year in Austin, TX. This role involves providing interpreting and support services for deaf or hard of hearing students in educational settings. The position emphasizes communication facilitation, adherence to professional conduct guidelines, and collaboration with educational staff to enhance the learning experience for students with hearing impairments.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate communication among deaf or hard of hearing students (DHH) and their hearing peers, the classroom teacher, and other personnel in the school system.
- Provide tutoring and/or note-taking services for DHH students.
- Follow the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment guidelines of professional conduct for Educational Interpreters.
- Provide interpreting for assemblies, concerts, ceremonies, field trips, or parent meetings when necessary.
- Carry out classroom management or individual behavior plans as designed by the classroom teacher and/or IEP team.
Requirements
- Certified Sign Language Interpreter (BEI Certification required)
- 1 year of experience with American Sign Language (ASL)
