About the position

The Bell Ringer position at The Salvation Army involves representing the organization by ringing a bell at assigned kettle locations to raise funds for services provided to individuals and families. This role requires a friendly demeanor, punctuality, and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions while maintaining a professional appearance and behavior.

Responsibilities

• Ring the bell continuously while stationed at the kettle location.
• Greet the public as they pass the kettle location.
• Be cordial and polite to the public; smile, make eye contact, and greet people appropriately.
• Report to work promptly as scheduled.
• Wear a bell ringing apron while working to identify as a Salvation Army bell ringer.
• Remain at the kettle location during the entire shift except during approved breaks.
• Assume responsibility for the kettle, stand, and bell at the assigned location.
• Call the supervisor on duty if needing to leave the shift early.
• Remain at the work site until relieved of duties by another Salvation Army staff member.
• Dress and behave appropriately to represent The Salvation Army.
• Remain alert and aware of surroundings, never taking the kettle off the stand.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
• Experience working with the public is desired.
• Dependable and able to demonstrate a friendly, cheerful attitude.
• Ability to adapt to changing job situations and priorities.
• Must be clean, neat, and well-groomed.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in customer service or public interaction.
