The Benefit Program Specialist I is a first-level professional role focused on evaluating the effectiveness of various benefit and eligibility programs, such as Public Assistance Programs and Unemployment. This position involves auditing processes, reporting findings, and potentially leading a team within a specific benefit area. The specialist may also assist in establishing public assistance programs in response to legislative mandates and recommend policy revisions. Responsibilities may include overseeing high-value claims and advocating in appeals processes, as well as performing case management work.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate the effectiveness of benefit and eligibility programs by auditing processes.
- Report findings to stakeholders regarding program effectiveness.
- Lead work within a specific benefit area and assign tasks to others.
- Assist in establishing public assistance programs in response to legislative mandates.
- Recommend policy or policy revisions to governing bodies.
- Oversee and determine high-value claims and benefits eligibility.
- Advocate in the appeals process for clients.
- Perform case management work as required.
Requirements
- Typically requires a bachelor's degree and 0-2 years of experience OR an associate degree and 2-3 years of experience.
