About the position

The Benefits Administrator at Carnegie Mellon University plays a crucial role in the administration of faculty and staff benefit programs, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations while providing excellent customer service. This position is integral to the university's mission of supporting its community through effective benefits management and communication.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Tuition Benefit program, including eligibility determination and claims processing.
  • Oversees the processing of invoices for all benefit programs, ensuring timely and accurate payments.
  • Ensures benefit programs are coordinated accurately and provides dedicated customer service support to internal and external customers.
  • Reviews unemployment compensation claims and maintains the UC database to audit charges and reconcile invoices.
  • Develops and maintains employee benefit communications and materials, delivering presentations as needed.
  • Creates and generates benefit plan reports from CMU and vendor systems.
  • Assists with the execution of annual Open Enrollment, including system testing and employee counseling.
  • Oversees COBRA reporting and enrollment processes, including annual Open Enrollment.
  • Tracks eligibility and utilization for international travel benefits, providing documentation to employees.
  • Participates in ongoing benefits and human resources systems testing and works on special projects as needed.
  • Leads compliance with policies, plan documents, ERISA, and federal and state regulations.
  • Audits the accuracy and performance of functions performed by other team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 1-3 years related experience in benefits administration or a similar field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) and Certified Benefits Professional (CBP) are a plus.
