About the position

The Benefits Assistance Coordinator at Central Texas Food Bank serves as the primary contact for individuals seeking food assistance, utilizing a social determinants of health approach to assess needs and provide intervention opportunities. This role involves assisting clients with applications for state public benefit programs, including SNAP, Medicaid, and others, while building collaborative relationships with community partners and internal teams to ensure comprehensive support for clients.

Responsibilities

• Assist individuals in the application process for SNAP and other state benefits in person, via phone, and through virtual appointments.
• Educate potential SNAP recipients and community members on-site and off-site at Partner Agencies.
• Develop new relationships with community partners to improve program outcomes.
• Coordinate day-to-day administrative activities such as answering helpline calls and scheduling client appointments.
• Manage a high volume of calls and respond promptly to inquiries from community members.
• Screen clients for a diverse array of CTFB client services and develop intervention plans.
• Deliver client services from a trauma-informed, strengths-based service delivery model.
• Represent CTFB at community events and assist with benefits assistance.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Two years in a full-time, wage-earning role in social services within a non-profit organization or a Bachelor's degree in Social Work or related field preferred.
• Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish.
• Strong customer service skills and a commitment to improving the lives of those served.

• Knowledge of central Texas and its network of services for low-income families is preferred.
