About the position

The Benefits Coordinator II at the University of Central Florida is responsible for coordinating and educating employees on a wide range of benefits, including insurance and retirement programs. This role serves as a liaison and subject matter expert, ensuring that employees understand their benefits options and assisting them with enrollment and inquiries. The position requires strong communication skills and a comprehensive understanding of employee benefits, compliance, and human resources best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Educate and assist employees with enrollment in insurance plans sponsored by the Division of State Group Insurance and University.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance on all aspects related to employee benefits, including eligibility, plan coverage, and plan details.
  • Assist employees with enrollment in State retirement plans, as well as voluntary 403(b) and 457(b) plans, and 401(a) FICA Replacement Plan.
  • Conduct in-depth one-on-one retirement meetings and facilitate retirement estimates.
  • Counsel employees regarding off-boarding as it relates to insurance continuation and COBRA eligibility.
  • Communicate with employees regarding inquiries, issues, and complaints via personal appointments, email, and telephone.
  • Serve as a liaison between employees and vendors to ensure quick resolutions.
  • Facilitate Benefits New Hire Orientations, Open Enrollment Sessions, and other educational training as needed.
  • Update, maintain, audit, and verify benefits data in HCM/third party database systems.
  • Maintain knowledge of university compliance with federal, state, and local health care laws.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in human resources or employee benefits
  • Strong understanding of employee insurance and retirement benefits
  • Familiarity with Human Resources best practices
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP systems like Workday
  • Organizational skills and ability to multitask

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience within higher education or government benefits programs
  • Knowledge of Florida State Group Insurance and Retirement System
  • PHR or SHRM-CP professional designations
  • Strong customer service orientation
