About the position

The Benefits Coordinator at the University of Oregon serves as the subject matter expert on health and welfare benefits, acting as a liaison to the Public Employees Benefits Board (PEBB) and other related agencies. This role is responsible for implementing statewide programs, providing information and support regarding various benefits to faculty, staff, and retirees, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and institutional policies. The position emphasizes a commitment to diversity and inclusion in all responsibilities and offers some flexibility for remote work.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the subject matter expert on health and welfare benefits for the university.
  • Act as a liaison to the Public Employees Benefits Board (PEBB) and related agencies.
  • Implement statewide programs through enrollment, status changes, and annual open enrollment.
  • Provide information to faculty, staff, dependents, retirees, and beneficiaries regarding UO benefits.
  • Assist and support the medical leaves program as needed.
  • Monitor, interpret, and apply applicable state and federal laws, rules, and institutional policies related to health and welfare benefits.
  • Support diversity and inclusion in all aspects of the job.

Requirements

  • Two years' experience in benefits administration, human resources, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health insurance plans, flexible spending accounts, retirement plans, and tax-deferred investment programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and databases.
  • Familiarity with federal and state laws affecting benefit plan administration.
  • Ability to process large volumes of detailed information accurately and timely.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration, customer service, and teamwork skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Working knowledge of Banner HRIS system.
  • Experience working in higher education or in the public sector.
  • Experience working with Collective Bargaining Agreements.
