About the position

The Benefits Coordinator is responsible for managing the administration of all employee benefit plans within the Lake Central School Corporation. This role involves overseeing plan eligibility, open enrollment, billing for self-funded insurance plans, and ensuring compliance with federal regulations. The coordinator serves as the primary contact for benefits-related inquiries and assists employees with various benefit issues, including workers' compensation and retirement plans.

Responsibilities

  • Manage administration of all benefit plans, including plan eligibility and open enrollment.
  • Handle monthly billing for self-funded insurance plans and retirement plans (401a, 403b, VEBA).
  • Prepare COBRA notices and enforce HIPAA regulations.
  • Maintain knowledge of government regulations and implement required changes related to federal healthcare reform (ACA and 1095's).
  • Serve as the authorized representative for all benefits and retirement plans for the school corporation.
  • Troubleshoot a wide variety of benefit issues for staff and assist in resolving claim inquiries.
  • Administer the school corporation's workers' compensation self-funded plan, including the 1st report of injury and review of monthly claim invoices.
  • Provide wage reports to the workers' compensation carrier for lost time accidents.
  • Collaborate with the workers' compensation carrier and medical facilities to assist injured employees.
  • Administer the Indiana Public Retirement System (INPRS) for participating staff, processing wage and contributions each payday.
  • Prepare retirement packages for staff, calculating final payouts and assisting retirees with pension and medical packages.
  • Track retiree insurance premium payments and VEBA payments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience in employee benefits administration preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, and other software applications).
  • Knowledge of employee benefits and applicable laws preferred.

Benefits

  • Hourly rate: $32-$34 per hour
  • Other benefits in accordance with the 12 month administrative assistant agreement
