About the position

The Benefits Coordinator at Adelphi University plays a crucial role in supporting the Human Resources department by managing various aspects of employee benefits, training and development, and performance management. This position involves providing assistance to employees regarding benefits inquiries, facilitating new hire orientations, and ensuring timely processing of benefit enrollments and claims. The coordinator will also be involved in wellness initiatives and performance management communications, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of HR operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide information and assistance to employees with benefit questions and resolve routine issues.
  • Assist with the design of benefits communications.
  • Assist with group benefit orientation for all new hires.
  • Ensure that all online benefit enrollment is input and processed in a timely manner for payroll deductions.
  • Assist with the administration of all leaves of absence, including FMLA, NYPFL, unpaid leaves, STD & LTD Disability, and Workers Compensation.
  • Process workers compensation claims.
  • Assist the Executive Director with ADA accommodations.
  • Pay monthly benefits bills in a timely manner.
  • Run direct pay medical bill and process payments, answering account-related questions from retirees/cobra participants.
  • Coordinate wellness initiatives, including employee events, annual wellness fair, and managing wellness funds and contracts.
  • Assist the Executive Director with Performance Management communications, tracking, and trainings.
  • Assist the Executive Director with training and development, including developing, organizing, tracking, and communicating.
  • Develop ways to improve efficiency through automation.
  • Facilitate trainings and workshops, as requested by the Executive Director.
  • Work with the Director of the HR Service Center and Systems to generate benefits and performance management reports, as needed.
  • Perform other job-related duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Minimum of three years of human resources related experience is required.
  • Benefits experience is highly preferred.
  • University experience is a plus.
  • Ability to be discrete and maintain high confidentiality on a wide range of issues.
  • Ability to be organized and pay attention to detail.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to prioritize workload according to volume, urgency, etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent public speaking skills with the ability to deliver and facilitate workshops and presentations.
  • Strong computer skills for using Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong project management skills using Microsoft Office Project Manager or equivalent software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a university setting is a plus.
