About the position

The Benefits Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the District's health and welfare programs, including conducting new employee benefit orientations, managing insurance billings, and facilitating open enrollment periods. This role requires collaboration with various departments and outside vendors to ensure the best health premium rates and to support employee benefits during negotiations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all aspects of the District's health and welfare programs.
  • Conduct new employee benefit orientations and ensure accuracy of supporting documentation.
  • Perform reconciliation and arrange payment of insurance billings according to deadlines.
  • Facilitate open enrollment periods for medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Work with outside vendors and brokers to market the District for best health premium rates.
  • Coordinate retiree benefits and manage COBRA information.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and bargaining positions for negotiations with employee associations.
  • Provide guidance to administrative staff regarding benefit information for union negotiations.
  • Process all paperwork necessary for the proper enrollment of new employees for their health and welfare plans.
  • Meet with employees to address benefit questions and provide excellent customer service.

Requirements

  • AA degree in Human Resources and/or Benefits Administration or equivalent experience in Human Resources, accounting, or benefit administration.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of methods, practices, and terminology used in clerical accounting work involving benefit administration.
  • Ability to work with computerized HRIS and integrated HR and payroll systems.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, including Excel.
  • Strong customer service skills and excellent knowledge of correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Ability to multi-task in a busy environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a school district or educational environment.
  • Knowledge of CalPERS retirement plans.
