About the position

The Leave Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and administering leave requests and accommodations, particularly those related to the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and other relevant state and local laws. This role involves communication with staff regarding their leave needs, managing the leave administration process, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and company policies.

Responsibilities

  • Communicating with staff members regarding their needs for leave and/or modified work schedules.
  • Handling the leave administration process from the initial notice of the need for leave to the return to work.
  • Maintaining reasonable communication with staff members on leave to facilitate a smooth return to work.
  • Advising managers and staff members on the interaction of leave laws with paid time off and other benefits.
  • Overseeing the return-to-work process for staff members returning from extended leave.
  • Facilitating other leave requests, including accommodation requests under the ADA.
  • Administering other company time-off programs as assigned.
  • Drafting and recommending revisions to company leave policies for compliance.
  • Coordinating leave pay with the internal Payroll group.
  • Maintaining complete and accurate records of leave and accommodation requests.
  • Preserving confidentiality of staff members' medical documentation and files.
  • Maintaining knowledge of applicable leave and accommodation laws.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or associate degree in Human Resources or related field preferred, and/or 2-3 years applicable work or military experience.
  • Two years of Human Resource/Benefits experience is preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of the leave requirements and legal protections afforded by the FMLA, ADA, and other state leave laws.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
