About the position

The Benefits and Pension Accounting Program Manager is responsible for the ongoing accounting and reporting of the company's pension and post-retirement plans. This role involves maintaining the plans' financial records, managing audits, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and ERISA regulations. The position requires collaboration with various teams, including Accounting and Human Resources, and reports directly to the Controller.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the pension/post-retirement plans' books and records.
  • Review and approve monthly journal entries and manage monthly closing and reconciliation procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements and internal controls.
  • Prepare year-end financial statements and footnote disclosures in accordance with GAAP and ERISA regulations.
  • Participate in year-end audit processes and collaborate with the independent auditor.
  • Research new accounting rules and updates, making recommendations for implementation.
  • Prepare Forms 5500 and other regulatory compliance filings for the IRS and Department of Labor.
  • Prepare GAAP pension/post-retirement disclosures for the company's audited financial statements.
  • Monitor investment performance in accordance with the company's asset allocation for post-retirement plan assets.
  • Work closely with the plans' custodian and actuaries to ensure accurate valuation inputs and disclosures.
  • Verify accuracy of all plan custodian certified trust statements and reconciliation of plan assets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
  • CPA and/or advanced degree with pension accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and current FASB and AICPA disclosure issues.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented, analytical, and strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Knowledge in PeopleSoft Application is desirable.
  • Valid California Driver License.
