About the position

The University of Virginia's Facilities Management Informatics department is seeking a Facilities Business Intelligence Developer. This role is pivotal in collecting, structuring, creating, and maintaining high-quality data related to building and infrastructure components to fulfill various business needs. The successful candidate will need to comprehend information system data structures and utilize data systems effectively, providing analysis and presenting information tailored to diverse audiences. Proficiency in computer applications and a working knowledge of various database and software programs are essential. Additionally, understanding the University's educational mission, strategic aims, and programs will be crucial for success in this position. The Facilities Business Intelligence Developer will participate in cross-functional performance improvement team efforts, ensuring data accuracy, quality, and availability. This role involves consulting with staff at all levels to streamline business processes and contribute to significant organizational projects through custom reporting and data presentation. Collaboration with operational subject matter experts and stakeholders is key, as the developer will be responsible for outcomes-related metrics, ensuring accurate metadata, target/threshold acquisition, and the development of appropriate metrics and reports. The incumbent will collect business requirements from stakeholders, design, code, validate, deploy, and maintain the semantic layer and metadata for complex reports and reporting tools, creating efficient and well-distributed solutions. Utilizing tools such as Tableau and QlikSense, the developer will build Business Intelligence solutions and develop code using structured query language (SQL). Adherence to team and departmental quality standards and development best practices is expected, along with monitoring the team's work queue and triaging requests as necessary. The role also includes participation in governance and Change Control-related activities, adapting to competing demands and organizational constraints. Working independently under general supervision, the developer will recognize when to seek guidance and provide training to less experienced team members. Training users on the application of Business Intelligence tools is also part of the responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 4 years of relevant experience; education may be considered in lieu of experience (e.g., Associate's Degree and 2 years of relevant experience or Bachelor's Degree).
  • Preferred experience in Data Analysis, SQL, and development with analytical tools such as Tableau, Qlik, and Power BI.
