About the position

Our Plano-based client is seeking a BI Developer who will play a crucial role in the development and maintenance of business intelligence solutions. This position involves collecting business requirements and evaluating, recommending, implementing, and supporting BI solutions. The BI Developer will be responsible for designing, coding, testing, and deploying datasets, dashboards, and reports primarily using Power BI or similar tools. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data analytics and a passion for improving business processes through effective data visualization and reporting. In this role, the BI Developer will oversee product issues such as defects, patches, and upgrades, ensuring that all deployments are thoroughly tested and validated post-production. The candidate will define, guide, and deliver medium-to-large business intelligence projects from inception to completion, which includes directing the work of BI Specialists and Analysts. Additionally, the BI Developer will contribute to the establishment of development standards and mentor junior resources to adhere to these standards during solution implementation. The position also requires the BI Developer to test business intelligence solutions by creating comprehensive test plans, cases, and scripts. Maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation for processes, procedures, and dashboard/report designs is essential. The BI Developer will provide operational support and incident management for systems, proactively updating internal clients and relevant parties on status changes and issues encountered. Furthermore, the role includes developing and delivering training on data marts and business intelligence, ensuring that both new and existing users across the company are well-equipped to utilize BI tools effectively. The BI Developer will assist the BI Leader in developing a strategic roadmap for BI initiatives and a data governance framework.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee product issues such as defects, patches & upgrades, including deployment, testing & post-production validation.
  • Define, guide, and deliver medium-to-large business intelligence projects from beginning to end, including directing work for BI Specialists and BI Analysts.
  • Contribute to building the development standards and guide the junior resources to follow the standards in implementing the solutions.
  • Test business intelligence solutions, including creating test plans/cases/scripts and implementing test plans.
  • Author and maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for processes, procedures, and dashboard/report designs.
  • Provide operational support & incident management for systems, including proactively update internal clients & relevant parties on status changes & issues encountered.
  • Develop and deliver training about data marts and business intelligence including continuing education and initial training for new users across the company.
  • Assist the BI Leader in developing BI strategic roadmap and data governance framework.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of Power BI experience
  • Strong understanding of data & analytics fundamentals including the various data modeling approaches
  • Knowledge of object-oriented programming and finite state systems
  • Well-versed with database technologies such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, or No SQL databases
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as SQL, R, DAX/MDX, or Python
  • Experience with BI tools, including Tableau, Power BI, or equivalent
  • Cloud platform experience is a plus
  • Experience with other Power Platform technologies is a plus
  • Experience with delivering data analysis solutions to business needs
