About the position

The BI Developer at GM Financial plays a crucial role in supporting analytics and report development, focusing on gathering business requirements, designing, developing, and maintaining reporting systems. This position is integral to the company's tech modernization efforts, contributing to the advancement of business objectives through data insights and analytics. The role involves collaboration with various teams and providing end-user support, ensuring the effective use of reporting tools like Cognos Analytics and Power BI.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze business user needs, document requirements, and develop or modify reports and analysis functionality.
  • Create and develop content to support super-users and end-users, demonstrating system functionality.
  • Provide production support for standard and ad-hoc reporting, addressing complex query needs using Cognos Analytics and Power BI.
  • Collaborate with Project Management Office, development teams, and data integration teams to provide new data sources for analytics and reporting.
  • Communicate with management and business partners on production and project statuses in a timely manner.
  • Interface with software vendors and suppliers to facilitate project completion.
  • Work closely with internal business units to ensure project completion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field or equivalent experience required.
  • 3-5 years of experience with analytics and reporting systems required.
  • Significant experience with Cognos Analytics and Power BI development.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Ability to write medium to complex SQL queries.
  • Experience with Cognos Analytics including Framework Manager, Data Modules, and BI Event Studio.
  • Power BI skills including semantic models and dashboard development using best practices.
  • Knowledge of security methodologies and best practices in IT governance for financial institutions.
  • Experience in a large and complex business environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of information systems and operations for supported business groups.
  • Strong understanding of the SDLC process and project management steps.
  • Familiarity with Agile Scrum framework.
