About the position

The BI Developer position at CalPortland is a key role within the Information Technology Architecture team, focused on designing, developing, and maintaining business intelligence solutions that facilitate data-driven decision-making. The developer will work closely with stakeholders to understand their data needs and create visualizations, reports, and dashboards that provide insights into business performance and trends. This role requires a strong background in database technology and analytical tools, as well as excellent communication skills to convert functional requirements into technical solutions.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement BI solutions using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
• Design and optimize data models and data warehouses to support reporting and analytics requirements.
• Extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from various sources into BI systems.
• Develop and maintain data pipelines and workflows to ensure data integrity and accuracy.
• Create interactive dashboards, reports, and visualizations to present insights and key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Collaborate with business analysts & report writers to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Conduct performance tuning and optimization of BI solutions for enhanced speed and efficiency.
• Stay updated with industry trends and best practices in BI and analytics technologies.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a BI Developer or similar role, with expertise in data visualization tools and SQL.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Experience with ETL processes, data modeling, and data warehousing concepts.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Java is a plus.
• Experience with SDLC, source control, and test management.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and big data technologies is desirable.

• Expertise in BI, T-SQL, SQL server, Online Analytical Processing (OLAP), and data cube technology.
