About the position

The Business Intelligence ETL Data Developer II at Miami University is a dynamic role focused on enhancing the university's data analytic environment. The position involves developing and deploying ETL processes, creating custom BI solutions, and leading small projects to improve data-driven decision-making across campus. The developer will work closely with various university offices to optimize data usage and provide training and support for BI applications, contributing to Miami's data-driven future.

Responsibilities

  • Build, create, or improve solutions that help analysts transform data into knowledge.
  • Develop and deploy ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and supporting programs.
  • Work with essential players to develop custom Business Intelligence (BI) solutions for the University.
  • Lead small projects in the development and use of BI software tools and systems.
  • Lead proactive change management efforts for BI platforms integrated with enterprise applications.
  • Bring new development ideas to existing applications and processes, enhancing specifications based on current requirements.
  • Partner with university offices to optimize the use of data-driven solutions, including developing stories and test cases.
  • Assist with the development of end-user training and training materials, providing guidance and mentoring for the campus BI Community.
  • Provide documentation and support for deployed BI applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree earned by date of hire and two or more years of relevant experience, or an Associate's degree earned by date of hire and four or more years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with PL/SQL and SQL programming.
  • Familiarity with relational database architectures at enterprise scale, such as SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, or Redshift.
  • Knowledge of enterprise business intelligence and data analytics technologies, such as Oracle OBIEE, MS Power BI, Tableau, Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB), and Oracle Data Integrator (ODI).
  • Understanding of industry-standard data models, such as Kimball's dimensional model.
  • Experience with methods in change data capture and slowly changing dimension loads and updates processes.
  • Familiarity with BI development best practices, including source code management, prototyping, and testing.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills focused on enterprise BI systems.
  • Awareness of data analytics and BI industry trends, including data mining, data modeling, machine learning, visualization, data lakes, and predictive modeling.
  • Experience supporting BI technology in a higher educational setting.
  • Familiarity with analytical tools available in cloud infrastructure such as AWS, Azure, and GCP.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working as a member of a team using Agile development techniques (Scrum or Kanban).
  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Analytics, or a related field.
