About the position

The Travel Escort is responsible for chaperoning children from the Unaccompanied Child (UC) program to their sponsors across the USA. This role involves ensuring the safety and comfort of the children during travel, interpreting as needed, and maintaining communication with sponsors regarding flight updates. The position requires flexibility, as escorts may need to travel on short notice and may also perform duties as a Youth Care Worker when not traveling.

Responsibilities

  • Escorts children from the UC program to their sponsor, ensuring their safety and comfort during travel.
  • Chaperones the child, interpreting for them as needed and maintaining sight and sound supervision at all times.
  • Prepares for travel with minimal notice, typically having 24 hours' notice but occasionally less.
  • Provides personal information to the Travel Coordinator for flight arrangements.
  • Tracks and submits receipts for expenses incurred during travel, using a company debit card.
  • May stay overnight in locations due to weather or flight cancellations.
  • Works shifts as a Youth Care Worker when not traveling to complete 40 hours of work per week.
  • Keeps sponsors informed on flight updates until the child is reunited with them.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the travel vehicle and reports any issues to the Travel Coordinator.
  • Notifies the Travel Coordinator of any vehicle damage in a timely manner.
  • Maintains positive relationships with the public, fellow employees, and youth.
  • Accepts additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English, with fluency in both written and spoken forms.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Minimum age of 21 years, with at least 3 years age difference from the oldest youth admitted to the house.
  • Pass a KBI and CANIS background check.
  • Good driving record to be insured by The Villages' insurance company.
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 30 pounds.
  • Characteristics that enable the development of positive relationships with youth.

Nice-to-haves

  • Some college coursework.
  • Experience working with youth in child welfare.
  • One year of experience with The Villages in good standing.
