About the position

The Big Data Engineer at Highmark Health is responsible for designing and engineering data solutions for the enterprise. This role involves collaborating with business, analytic, and IT stakeholders to develop and maintain data ingestion pipelines, transformations, and delivery programs. The engineer will work with various technologies to support operational and analytic needs, ensuring data is accessible and well-structured for users across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain data solutions in traditional data warehouses, Big Data solutions, and cloud platforms.
• Code, test, implement, and maintain scalable frameworks that support data engineering services across multiple systems.
• Align with security, data governance, and data quality programs, contributing to metadata management and data quality management.
• Maintain machine learning and AI engineering processes (MLOps) deployed to cloud or big data environments.
• Deliver assigned projects and provide guidance to junior team members as needed.
• Establish standards for high-performance data ingestion, transformation, and delivery.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science or related field.
• 3 years of experience in data platform development, data engineering, software development, or data science.
• 1 year of experience with Big Data or cloud data platforms.

Nice-to-haves

• Master's Degree in Software Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science or related field.
• 1 year of experience with Google Cloud Platform, AWS, Azure, or other cloud platforms.
• 1 year of experience with Spark or Python.
• 1 year of experience in the healthcare industry.
• 1 year of experience in database administration.
