About the position

Van Der Hout LLP is a nationally renowned, full-service immigration and nationality law firm located in San Francisco's Union Square. Founded in 1980, the firm has grown to a staff of 37, including attorneys, paralegals, and administrative support. The firm represents clients in a wide range of immigration matters and is currently seeking to fill a paralegal position within its expanding employment and family-based immigration practice. This full-time, in-office position will involve assisting attorneys in the preparation of non-immigrant and immigrant visa petitions, as well as Labor Certification/PERM applications. The successful candidate will also prepare applications for adjustment of status and naturalization. In this role, the paralegal will work under moderate supervision and guidance, reviewing case documents and preparing employment-based immigration applications for filing with various government agencies. The position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. The paralegal will be responsible for preparing non-immigrant and immigrant visa petitions, managing the status of filed applications and petitions, and communicating with clients, witnesses, and foreign nationals regarding procedural and case processing issues. Additionally, the paralegal will review and approve client billing under the supervision of an attorney, run reports to monitor deadlines, oversee case status using case management and billing systems, and calendar deadlines and reminders. Writing declarations will also be part of the responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing non-immigrant and immigrant visa petitions, including PERM Labor Certifications, Adjustment of Status, and Naturalization applications.
  • Managing the status of filed applications and petitions.
  • Communicating with clients, witnesses, and foreign nationals regarding procedural and case processing issues.
  • Reviewing and approving client billing under the supervision of an attorney.

Requirements

  • At least 1-3 years of Immigration Law paralegal experience strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree and/or Paralegal Certificate preferred.
  • Spanish language proficiency, verbal and written, required.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent English skills (written and verbal).
  • Interest in human rights and immigration matters.
  • Computer literacy and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency with case management software and other reporting tools.
