About the position

The Bilingual Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) at Rowan-Virtua Family Medicine is responsible for performing a variety of medical, clerical, and reception duties to support the Department of Family Medicine. This role involves assisting physicians in patient care, managing patient appointments, and ensuring accurate documentation in the electronic medical records (EMR) system. The CMA will also handle patient communications and maintain a professional office environment.

Responsibilities

  • Check patients in through Epic system; verify demographics and insurance information and make corrections or additions.
  • Schedule patient appointments for office visits through Epic system.
  • Verify patient insurance benefits and precertification for services to be provided.
  • Prepare patients for visits, including taking history, chief complaint, weight, blood pressure, and pulse; document in EMR system.
  • Assist physician with patient care.
  • Draw up medications for injections given by physician.
  • Handle patient calls and relay to physician through the EMR system.
  • Process new patient charts in EMR system.
  • Prepare patient charts for next day visits.
  • Maintain medical waste logs and keep abreast of current regulations.
  • Prepare exam room for patient visits.
  • Complete HMO referrals (paper and/or electronic).
  • Scan into EMR all appropriate patient-related correspondence and information.
  • Maintain office and medical supply inventory.
  • Stock exam rooms and keep exam rooms neat and orderly.
  • Order injectables and vaccines.
  • Maintain and clean office medical equipment, as required.
  • Maintain and refer to capitation lists for various insurers.
  • Batch patient visits activity and prepare money for deposit.
  • Handle incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Perform light typing, as needed.
  • Maintain a professional and orderly office appearance.
  • Communicate with the Department's various staff and offices.
  • Open and close offices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Certification from an accredited medical assistant program is required.
  • Knowledge of computers is required.
  • At least one year of related experience in a medical office setting is preferred.
  • A working knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
  • Experience in electronic medical records is required.
  • Ability to work independently, excellent communication skills, organizational skills, and flexibility are required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English is required.
