About the position

The Community Career Coach will serve as a WorkSource ambassador at the Chemeketa Community College Career Services Center, playing a crucial role in bridging connections among students, former students, faculty, and employers. This position is designed to assist students in obtaining employment by identifying opportunities, assessing their skills and experiences, and effectively presenting their qualifications to potential employers. The Community Career Coach will also support faculty in developing students' career skills through classroom presentations and assignments, while assisting employers in connecting with students through job postings and recruiting events. Additionally, the coach will provide wraparound services to underserved students, ensuring they have access to the resources they need to succeed. Maintaining records and reporting systems is also a key responsibility of this role. Responsibilities

  • Interviews, screens, and refers individuals to community-based employment opportunities
  • Discusses employment needs, qualifications, work schedule, and career interests
  • Assists individuals in utilizing available placement services
  • Refers individuals to appropriate employers or other campus services
  • Notifies students of available jobs
  • Guides students in identifying how their skills and experiences fit a variety of jobs and a specific job
  • Guides students in effectively packaging their skills in writing and verbally to attract positive attention from employers
  • Provides Career Services orientations to new students in classes and group settings
  • Provides information regarding job placement services and resources including job search skills and instructions on how to access job postings
  • Provides students with wraparound services and refers students to Basic Needs, Counseling Services, STEP program, Parent and Veteran Resource Centers, Safe Haven, Financial Aid, etc. for additional support
  • Provides information and resources on career opportunities using OLMIS, iMatchSkills, Quality info, and Oregon Career Information System
  • Provides students with post-secondary training programs opportunities and certification programs and assists with employment-related paperwork
  • Represents the college in activities outside the college setting, i.e., community career fairs, WorkSource Oregon stand-up meetings
  • Coaches students individually on job search strategies (i.e., interviewing, resume writing, job applications, cover/thank you letters)
  • Provides student support and encouragement in the job search process
  • Promotes WorkSource products and services including Work Ready, Staff Assistance Job placements, WorkSource Individual Training Account programs, On-the-Job Training programs, Coursera, virtual workshops, and MyWorkSource
  • Makes classroom presentations on job search skills, resumes/cover letters, and interviewing
  • Develops, monitors, and tracks community-based employment opportunities
  • Maintains job postings, files of past postings, and statistical records
  • Utilizes Navigate for student appointments, notes, and Early Alerts
  • Attends CTE program advisory meetings and department Career Services meetings at the college
  • Participates in student campus events to promote Career Services
  • Coordinates with the WorkSource Oregon centers staff and collaborates on community outreach events
  • Circulates employment information about WorkSource Oregon to students and the college
  • Completes the WorkSource Oregon operational standards training
  • Utilizes WorkSource platforms for resource sharing and referrals to other workforce development programs and partners
  • Tracks program services and outcomes in I-Trac and files all mandated paperwork in eBridge

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree from an accredited institution with academic coursework in Human Services, Business, Counseling, Education, or Human Resources
  • Two years of full-time equivalent related experience or training (Career counseling, job placement and development, human services, or business) which requires intense public contact
  • Two years of related experience working with people representing diverse populations (i.e., cultural, social, economic, gender differences, second language learners, neuro-diverse, educational backgrounds, and individuals with accessibility needs)
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Ability to work independently, self-manage, and collaborate as a member of a team to achieve tangible outcomes
  • Exceptional written/verbal communication skills
  • Ability to design and provide individualized and group instruction
  • Event planning and staging skills
  • Publications design and production skills (flyers, handouts, etc.)
  • Ability to evaluate student work
  • Ability to identify and assess student employment skills
  • Ability to identify and present employer job needs
  • Bicultural/multicultural skills sufficient to select appropriate behaviors, values, and attitudes within different cultures during interactions with others

  • Experience working in a college, community, and high school career center

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Counseling, Human Resources, or related field
