The Bilingual Early Childhood Education Teacher Assistant (Spanish) position at Palmdale School District is designed to support the educational and developmental activities for children in a nurturing environment. This role involves assisting the lead teacher at an assigned center or site with various instructional activities aimed at stimulating learning and development among young children. The assistant will play a crucial role in the care and supervision of students, ensuring their safety and well-being during school hours. The position is under the general supervision of certificated staff and receives direction from the Director of Early Childhood Education or their designee. In this role, the assistant will be responsible for implementing educational and developmental activities, assisting with curriculum planning, and addressing the personal and physical needs of children, including meals and snacks. The assistant may also assume a leadership role in the absence of the teacher and is expected to confer with appropriate staff members regarding any potentially stressful family situations. Participation in case conferences and maintaining confidentiality of records related to Head Start families are also key responsibilities. The assistant will be expected to develop teaching skills, take on more responsibilities in educational processes, and actively participate in weekly center meetings. Additionally, the assistant will be responsible for updating bulletin boards and performing other related tasks as assigned. This position is part-time, observing a 185-day work calendar, and typically requires working either 3.75 or 5.75 hours per day, depending on program needs. The salary for this position ranges from $17.05 to $20.74 per hour, with a probationary period of 130 workdays. Upon becoming permanent, employees are eligible for a one-step salary advance, with future annual advances up to the fifth step of the salary schedule. The role also includes 17 paid holidays, sick leave, and vacation benefits, which are earned at a prescribed rate after the completion of the probationary period.
