Bilingual/ESL Teacher

About the position

The Paterson Public Schools is seeking to hire one (1) Bilingual/ESL Teacher effective September 1, 2024. The position requires a dedicated individual who can effectively teach students who are learning English as a second language. The teacher will be responsible for implementing instructional strategies that cater to the diverse needs of students and will work closely with parents and the community to foster a supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Communicate effectively in English and the selected native language, both orally and in writing.
• Implement effective instructional strategies and classroom management techniques.
• Assess and diagnose learning needs of students requiring ESL support.
• Utilize knowledge of NJSLA, ACCESS, and WIDA in lesson planning and instruction.
• Interpret data to drive instruction and improve student learning outcomes.
• Exhibit enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community.

Requirements

• Hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Hold a New Jersey instructional certificate with a bilingual education endorsement.
• Demonstrate excellent experience in teaching and working with students.
• Possess a valid driver's license with no serious violations.
• Exhibit good moral character and integrity.
• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child growth and development.
• Understand Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in lesson planning.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with data interpretation to drive instruction.
• Familiarity with educational standards and assessments related to ESL.
