About The Position

The Bilingual Housing Counselor at Housing Resources, Inc. is responsible for providing education, advocacy, and guidance to individuals and families seeking to purchase or maintain home ownership in the Milwaukee and Waukesha areas. This role involves coordinating workshops, meeting with clients to create action plans, and ensuring compliance with fair housing regulations while assisting clients through the home buying process.

Requirements

  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Experience in housing counseling, mortgage origination, underwriting, or processing preferred
  • Self-starter with a strong work ethic
  • Ability to manage time and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build effective relationships
  • Ability to obtain and maintain counseling certifications
  • Valid driver's license and proof of auto insurance
  • Ability to work with diverse backgrounds

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with high schoolers
  • Knowledge of real estate law
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and facilitate home buying workshops, including securing speakers and creating curriculum.
  • Meet one-on-one with clients to assist in creating action plans and coaching them throughout the home buying process.
  • Provide clients with an overview of various underwriting guidelines for mortgage or refinance programs.
  • Record client information on the electronic client tracking system and maintain detailed client files.
  • Prepare loan packages for referral to lenders for the pre-approval process and make referrals to other real estate professionals.
  • Conduct community outreach, education, and partnership development.
  • Prepare monthly reports and provide written reports to appropriate funding sources regarding program accomplishments.
  • Observe all fair housing/equal opportunity regulations and laws.
