About the position

The Human Resource Generalist at Great Lakes Group plays a crucial role in the daily operations of the Human Resource department. This position involves a variety of responsibilities including hiring and interviewing staff, administering pay, benefits, and leave, and enforcing company policies and practices. The HR Generalist will actively participate in recruiting efforts, conducting interviews, and facilitating the hiring process for qualified job applicants. Collaboration with departmental managers is essential to understand the specific skills and competencies required for open positions. In addition to recruitment, the HR Generalist is responsible for conducting background checks and verifying employee eligibility. They will implement and conduct new hire orientation programs and employee recognition initiatives. Routine tasks associated with administering human resource programs will also be part of the role, including managing compensation, benefits, leave, disciplinary matters, disputes, investigations, performance management, and training and development. The HR Generalist will handle employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, ensuring that complex or sensitive matters are referred to the appropriate staff. Maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations is a critical aspect of this position. The HR Generalist will review policies and practices to ensure compliance and stay informed about trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources and employment law. Collaboration with department managers and leadership is necessary to support company initiatives. Additionally, the HR Generalist will enter, maintain, and process payroll information to ensure timely and accurate payroll transactions, including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, PTO, and other deductions. Accurate record-keeping and reporting of payroll transactions are also required.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in recruiting, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions.
  • Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Implements/conducts new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including compensation, benefits, and leave.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex matters to appropriate staff.
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources.
  • Collaborates with department managers, leadership, and co-workers to support company initiatives.
  • Enters, maintains, and processes payroll information to ensure timely and accurate payroll transactions.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.

Requirements

  • Bilingual in Spanish (Required)
  • 1 year of experience in Human Resources (Required)
  • 1 year of experience in Manufacturing (Required)
  • Experience with ATS and HR sourcing
  • Knowledge of payroll and HRIS systems
