About the position

The Bilingual Japanese Credit Risk Analyst will support the commercial lending and investment banking business primarily for US subsidiaries of Japanese corporate customers. This role involves managing a portfolio of Japanese corporate credit customers, performing due diligence, analyzing credit risk, and preparing detailed credit analyses in accordance with established policies and procedures. The analyst will also communicate directly with customers and internal teams to ensure compliance and enhance the overall skill set of the portfolio management team.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a designated portfolio of Japanese corporate credit customers.
  • Perform due diligence and scheduled reviews regularly.
  • Analyze credit risk of the designated portfolio, determine accurate ratings, and make recommendations to management.
  • Prepare detailed credit analysis and credit applications in accordance with relevant credit policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate the borrower's industry, business, legal, and financial risks and recommend extensions of credit to management.
  • Maintain updated knowledge on assigned industries through various sources and direct communication with customers.
  • Understand and assess risk of standard bank products such as loans, trade finance, and derivatives.
  • Maintain direct communication with assigned customers regarding covenants compliance and facility due dates.
  • Coordinate and communicate account information to internal auditors and external regulators.
  • Work with business lines to identify prospective transactions and structural risks.
  • Advise relationship managers on credit risk issues and terms to improve profitability and minimize credit costs.
  • Ensure compliance with external regulatory requirements and internal policies.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of working experience in financial institutions or equivalent in accounting/financial analysis areas.
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Bilingual Japanese language skill (business level or higher) required.
  • Bachelor's degree required (major in accounting/finance/business preferred).
  • MBA or CFA is a plus.
  • Completion of formal credit training is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Finance or related field.
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) certification.
