About the position

Clackamas County's Health Centers - Behavioral Health Clinics is seeking a motivated and adaptable Bilingual Mental Health Specialist to join the Community Support Team. This position is based in Milwaukie, Oregon, and is designed for individuals who are licensed or eligible to obtain licensure. As a Mental Health Specialist, you will provide a variety of professional counseling and program services to individuals and their families receiving mental health services. You will be an integral part of a diagnostic team of mental health professionals, conducting evaluations, service/treatment planning, and placement for clients with severe and persistent mental health diagnoses, some of whom may also have substance use disorder diagnoses. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering individual and group therapy, monitoring clients' progress during treatment, and developing and implementing service plans tailored to meet the specific needs of clients. You will work closely with agency providers to ensure appropriate client care and will participate in one or more agency programs to provide comprehensive services. The Mental Health Specialist is expected to engage actively in the treatment process, fostering a supportive environment that encourages participation and positive outcomes for clients and their families. You will be expected to provide outpatient treatment to vulnerable individuals, many of whom may have limited resources. This position is currently open for a licensed Mental Health Specialist 2, but Clackamas County will also consider unlicensed candidates with relevant experience, provided they obtain licensure within three years of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual, group, and other therapeutic interventions to clients and significant family members or caregivers in accordance with the service plan.
  • Monitor client progress during treatment, write treatment progress notes, and maintain electronic case records in accordance with OARs and agency policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement service plans, determining appropriate treatment, skills training, and care service needs; match client needs with potential services and resources.
  • Conduct interviews with clients and collect critical information necessary to complete comprehensive assessments/reassessments for both mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Coordinate and consult on the client's behalf with family, providers, public and private agencies, law enforcement agencies, justice system, schools, and others to maximize treatment goals.
  • Work closely with agency providers such as physicians, psychiatrists, peers, therapists, and case managers to evaluate, treat, and plan with clients for appropriate care.
  • Coordinate with external health care providers and social service personnel to obtain services for clients or to participate in problem solving.

Requirements

  • Registered as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) as established by the State of Oregon.
  • Graduate degree in Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or other behavioral science field.
  • If licensed, must be credentialed as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Psychologist (PsyD/PHD) with a minimum of two years of related experience.
  • If unlicensed, must have a minimum of one year of relevant experience and must receive licensure within three years of hire.
  • Fluency in Spanish/English, with bilingual skills to be validated/tested at the time of interview and/or selection.
  • Experience, knowledge, and commitment to serving a diverse population and promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Must possess and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate.

Nice-to-haves

  • Current Licensure (LCSW, CSWA, LPC, or LMFT).
  • Certification as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) I, II, III.
  • Experience working with Evidence Based Treatment Practices.
  • Experience working with adults with severe and persistent mental health diagnoses and substance use issues.
  • Experience facilitating therapy groups for adults.
  • Experience performing collaborative documentation/charting with clients.
