About the position

The Bilingual Paralegal Advocate - Family Law position at My Sisters' Place involves providing high-quality legal services to survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking. The role includes assisting attorneys with case preparation, client communication, and administrative support, all while working in a collaborative environment that emphasizes trauma-informed care and advocacy.

Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys on cases, including preparing and drafting pleadings, motions, judgments, financial statements, and other correspondence.
  • Prepare and review discovery demands, including disclosure statements, answers to interrogatories, and production requests.
  • Handle routine communications and transactions with clients including scheduling calls.
  • Provide internal and external referrals to clients.
  • Interpretation support during client meetings.
  • Translate legal documents and correspondence.
  • Maintain client records.
  • Screen callers for eligibility and conduct intakes.
  • Maintain statistics and complete monthly and quarterly grant reports for funders.
  • Assist the management team with administrative support and special projects, including research, developing presentations, and advocacy initiatives.
  • Attend and participate in department staff meetings and ongoing training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Bilingual Spanish oral and written skills highly preferred.
  • Family Law experience is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently, assess priorities, multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with word processing, Excel spreadsheets, Microsoft Outlook and database programs.
  • Willing to develop and conduct trainings for members of the legal center, agency and community partners.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively and to interact with management and program staff.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in immigration law is a plus.
