About the position

The HR Generalist plays a crucial role in the organization by providing guidance and solutions on various human resources operational issues. This position operates under general supervision and partners closely with management to facilitate the effective delivery of HR services. The HR Generalist is responsible for ensuring that the organization's current HR requirements are met and that the HR strategy is implemented effectively. Additionally, this role serves as a primary contact for employees, addressing their questions regarding HR policies and procedures, thereby fostering a positive work environment. In this role, the HR Generalist will develop and implement positive employee relations initiatives, coach both employees and managers on the correct interpretation and administration of company HR policies, and assist management in maintaining a positive employee relations climate. The HR Generalist will assess the internal employee climate and work with managers to identify and implement actions that enhance or sustain a positive employee relations environment. This includes conducting exit interviews, providing feedback to management, and representing the company at unemployment hearings when necessary. The HR Generalist will also act as a liaison between Talent Acquisition and management in the recruitment and selection of candidates, ensuring that the organization attracts and retains top talent. They will work with local managers to determine training needs, compile data, analyze training requirements, and recommend training programs to support employee and management development. Furthermore, the HR Generalist will ensure an effective onboarding process for new employees and maintain consistency in administering job evaluations and compensation programs. They will assist local managers with salary and wage administration to ensure pay equity and compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and Title VII. The HR Generalist will also support affirmative action programs, audit work authorizations, and assist with the leave of absence process in partnership with the corporate Leave of Absence team and management.

Responsibilities

  • Develop positive employee relations initiatives.
  • Coach employees and managers on correct interpretation and administration of Company HR policy.
  • Assist management in maintaining positive employee relations.
  • Assess the internal employee climate and counsel with managers to identify and implement actions that improve or maintain a positive employee relations environment.
  • Partner with HR management when conducting local level investigations and resolving team member issues.
  • Conduct exit interviews and provide feedback to management.
  • Represent the company at unemployment hearings when needed.
  • Liaison between Talent Acquisition and management in the recruitment and selection of candidates.
  • Work with local managers to determine training needs.
  • Compile data and analyze past and current year training requirements.
  • Recommend training programs and utilization to support employee and management development.
  • Ensure effective new employee onboarding process.
  • Ensure internal consistency and worth in administering job evaluations and compensation programs.
  • Facilitate organization development and job evaluation processes.
  • Assist local managers with salary and wage administration to ensure pay consistency and equity.
  • Ensure HR operation is operating in accordance with federal, state, and local employment requirements.
  • Support affirmative action programs.
  • Audit and maintain current work authorizations.
  • Support the leave of absence process in partnership with corporate Leave of Absence team and management.
  • Assist managers with administration of Worker's Compensation policies and procedures.
  • Take lead role in ensuring that employees are returned to work as soon as possible.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • At least 2 years of HR Generalist experience demonstrating knowledge of HR practices, legal rules, and regulations.
  • Experience applying knowledge of state employment laws to assess compliance issues.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong time management skills, including prioritizing, organizing, and tracking details of multiple projects with varying completion dates.

Nice-to-haves

  • Fluency in Spanish (read/write/speak).
  • PHR or SPHR certification.
