About the position

The Bilingual Education Teacher for 3rd Grade Spanish is responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to students, enabling them to effectively engage with the curriculum in English. Under the supervision of the school principal, the teacher will develop lesson plans that align with the objectives of the instructional program, adhere to Chicago Public Schools' policies, and comply with Illinois Learning Standards as well as state and federal laws. The role involves administering tests and language assessments to evaluate students' language abilities and assessing their progress within the bilingual program. The teacher will create and deliver lesson plans that utilize appropriate instructional techniques to help limited English proficient students overcome barriers to participation in the district's instructional programs. Establishing positive learning expectations and maintaining accurate records of student achievements are crucial aspects of this position. The teacher will implement various instructional methods, drawing from a range of materials available in the school, and participate in the development of new teaching techniques. In addition to instructional duties, the teacher will be responsible for maintaining classroom discipline, promoting positive behavior, and ensuring fairness in teacher-student relationships. Communication with parents and guardians regarding students' academic progress, attendance, and conduct is essential. The teacher may also coordinate class field trips and participate in extracurricular activities, contributing to a well-rounded educational experience for students.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized instruction and support to students in accordance with the instructional program.
  • Develop and deliver lesson plans that utilize appropriate instructional techniques for limited English proficient students.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of all student teaching requirements and coursework for the appropriate teaching license(s) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
  • Possession of the appropriate Illinois State Board of Education issued educator license with a bilingual endorsement in the grade level being taught.
  • Knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification requirements.
  • Knowledge of contemporary principles and practices of teaching.
  • Knowledge of classroom and behavior management techniques.
  • Ability to modify instruction to meet student needs.
  • Ability to cooperate with school faculty and administration in developing and implementing an articulated program of instruction.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, parents, guardians, staff members, and community representatives.
  • Ability to understand the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional patterns of students.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Skill in exercising sound and professional judgment.
