About the position

The Billing & Outreach Specialist (BOS) at Kodiak Community Health Center plays a crucial role in supporting the healthcare team by managing billing workflows and advocating for individuals and families seeking assistance through the Health Care Marketplace and other financial resources. This position is integral to ensuring that patients receive the necessary support and information regarding their healthcare options and financial assistance programs. The BOS will work closely with patients, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals to facilitate high-quality, coordinated care that meets the diverse needs of the community. In this role, the BOS will coordinate the Sliding Fee Discount Program Application process, ensuring that patients are informed and supported throughout their application journey. The specialist will manage various accounts within the Epic system, including staff accounts, and serve as a resource for patients seeking financial assistance, including Medicaid. The position requires the completion of all necessary federal and state consumer assistance training to ensure compliance and effectiveness in outreach efforts. The BOS will also engage with the Kodiak community by providing education and outreach about KCHC services and programs. This includes conducting presentations to community organizations and businesses to raise awareness and educate the public about available healthcare resources. The role may involve performing additional duties that align with the mission and vision of the Kodiak Community Health Center, contributing to a collaborative and supportive healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a member of the KCHC Healthcare Team in the provision of health services to individuals, families, and/or their communities.
  • Coordinates the Sliding Fee Discount Program Application, notification and data collection process.
  • Manages various Accounts in Epic including Staff Accounts.
  • Acts as a patient resource for financial assistance, including Medicaid.
  • Completes all required and applicable federal and/or state consumer assistance trainings.
  • Provides general program information and performs outreach and enrollment functions in the community, including all KCHC services and programs.
  • Provides education and presentations to community organizations, businesses, and other groups in order to reach and educate the Kodiak community.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, that support the overall mission and vision of Kodiak Community Health Center.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED required; Business and/or medical terminology education preferred.
  • One to two years previous business office, health insurance or physician's office experience preferred.
  • Excellent customer service skills with a caring and understanding attitude.
  • Extremely computer literate.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, with all levels of staff personnel.
  • Team-oriented and able to work collaboratively with staff.
  • Strong problem-solving and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, medical office environment with frequent interruptions, public contact, and occasional crisis situations.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with sensitive medical information and foster an ethical work environment.
  • Ability and willingness to carry out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Demonstrates complete understanding and responds effectively with sensitivity to special populations served by KCHC.

Nice-to-haves
