About the position

The Billing Specialist is responsible for ensuring compliance with practice policies and procedures while managing billing and collection processes. This role involves verifying insurance coverage, processing claims, and maintaining accurate medical records. The specialist will work closely with the Office Manager to report on performance and ensure all documentation meets payer requirements.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to and implement all Practice policies and procedures and compliance with all accreditation standards.
• Ensure office complies with applicable laws and regulations.
• Meet weekly to monthly with Office Manager to report on successes and failures.
• Maintain billing and collection of payments from patients and payers.
• Verify insurance coverage and benefits.
• Process payer remittances and manage outstanding claims.
• Appeal any claims that are not paid properly.
• Credential new providers and update CAQH and payer websites every 90 days or when due.
• Request EFT payments and electronic ERA when necessary.
• Send referral requests to appropriate providers.
• Maintain clearinghouse website and correct any errors.
• Maintain Bill at home process for cash and insurance patients.
• Work AR reports weekly and verify final billing to process to clearinghouse daily.
• Request referrals and pre-auth forms from PCPs and insurances.
• Research and understand additional CPT codes.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Effective verbal and written communication skills

Nice-to-haves

• Bilingual in English/Spanish
• Two (2) years of experience in appropriate healthcare field
