About the position

The Biochemistry Core Director at Dartmouth College is responsible for overseeing the operations and strategic development of the Molecular Tools Core (MTC) and Molecular Interactions & Imaging Core (MIIC) Facilities. This role involves collaboration with faculty, scientists, and graduate students to enhance research services, implement innovative solutions, and support grant initiatives. The director will also mentor staff, manage research projects, and ensure compliance with safety standards while promoting the core facilities' services within the Dartmouth community.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee operations and strategic development of the MTC and MIIC Facilities.
  • Provide oversight and mentorship for the development and implementation of new technologies.
  • Collaborate with researchers to provide expert consultation and experimental advice.
  • Identify and troubleshoot problems associated with experimental design and procedures.
  • Stay updated on trends in technologies and implement relevant innovations.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for clients and collaborators.
  • Contribute to scientific manuscripts by drafting text and preparing visuals.
  • Coordinate and oversee training in laboratory methods for various scientific investigators.
  • Assist leadership with strategic planning for operations and infrastructure.
  • Hire and manage personnel for the core facilities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with students, faculty, and collaborators.
  • Promote awareness and utilization of services through various events and communications.
  • Contribute to grant proposals and write annual progress reports.
  • Assess customer satisfaction and engage user communities.
  • Collaborate with administrative partners to support financial sustainability.
  • Oversee ordering, billing, and other administrative tasks.
  • Manage multiple research projects and coordinate with staff scientists.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards in the laboratory.
  • Organize meetings among project participants to communicate services.
  • Maintain communication with sales and service representatives.

Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent experience in biochemistry, molecular biology, bioengineering, or related field.
  • Four years of relevant research experience or equivalent in a laboratory setting.
  • Strong knowledge in core service areas such as recombinant protein production and protein biochemistry.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team and apply critical thinking.
  • Willingness to work with hazardous materials.

Nice-to-haves

  • Three years of postdoctoral research experience in academic or industry settings.
  • Proven leadership and management skills with experience supervising scientific teams.
  • Teaching experience.
