About the position

The Bioinformatics Analyst II - Translational Research at the Allen Institute plays a crucial role in analyzing omics data to support joint research projects with industry partners. This position requires a self-motivated individual who can collaborate effectively with scientists and external collaborators, translating complex ideas into actionable data analysis plans. The role emphasizes the importance of diversity in team science and aims to generate novel insights into human immunology through a multi-disciplinary approach.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze clinical metadata and multi-modal omics data including scRNA-seq, scATAC-seq, CITE-seq, TEA-seq, flow cytometry, and proteomics.
  • Work closely with immunologists and bioinformaticians to explore omics data for hypothesis generation and testing.
  • Review, implement, troubleshoot, and improve analytic methods developed by others.
  • Assist scientists in data analysis and data presentation.
  • Identify potential biomarkers and/or drug targets for diseases of interest and perform network analysis.
  • Generate high-quality figures and tables for presentations and publications.
  • Meet analysis deadlines and manage multiple projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics or closely related discipline.
  • 2 years of equivalent experience in a biological research or industry setting.
  • Fluency in R and/or Python for data analysis.
  • Hands-on experience analyzing high throughput omics data.
  • Basic knowledge of molecular biology and wet-lab omics technologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in bioinformatics or closely related disciplines.
  • 2 - 5 years of experience in industry research.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing code for omics data analysis.
  • Experience in analyzing data from clinical trials, biomarker research, and/or target identification and prioritization.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing and/or Linux.
  • Experience using Git or similar version control system.
