About the position

The Bioinformatics Data Analyst at Bowie State University plays a crucial role in supporting and advancing Bioinformatics research within the Department of Natural Sciences. This position involves close collaboration with faculty to mentor students, manage research activities, and maintain lab support. The analyst will also oversee recruitment efforts, track student progress, and facilitate student participation in external research opportunities, all aimed at enhancing student success in STEM education.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate mentorship of students and maintain undergraduate research activities.
  • Provide Bioinformatics lab support and maintain software and equipment.
  • Manage recruitment efforts and track student progress.
  • Organize student participation in external opportunities such as mentored research and internships.
  • Monitor research progress and student engagement in research activities.
  • Support supplemental instructional activities to enhance student learning.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or Master of Science in Bioinformatics or related areas (Ph.D. preferred).
  • Minimum of two years of research experience in Bioinformatics data management.
  • Experience in developing Bioinformatics tools and algorithms.
  • Programming expertise in R and Python.
  • Experience with computer-aided drug design, structural bioinformatics, and bio-molecular simulations.
  • Demonstrated research experience in next-generation sequencing data analysis.
  • Experience working with undergraduate students and in experiential learning models.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently with a strong work ethic.
