About the position

The Bioinformatics Data Scientist will support the 711 Human Performance Wing in conducting research and scientific work related to biological sciences and their applications in understanding Warfighter performance. This role involves the development, deployment, and optimization of bioinformatics software tools and pipelines, utilizing systematic and disciplined approaches to manage projects effectively in both Windows and Linux environments.

Responsibilities

  • Support research and scientific work in biological sciences related to Warfighter performance.
  • Develop, deploy, and optimize bioinformatics software tools and pipelines.
  • Perform analysis using systematic and quantifiable approaches.
  • Manage projects related to biological markers and interventions.
  • Document all code and methods meticulously.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in biological science, medical field, or computer science.
  • At least five years of demonstrated work experience in a relevant field.
  • Excellent organizational, management, and communication skills.
  • Experience in developing various types of data pipelines.
  • Five years of experience with bash or Python scripting languages.
  • Five years of experience in a high-performance computing environment.
  • Five years of experience in iterative code design.
  • Four years of experience in meticulous documentation of code and methods.
  • Five years of experience with Multiomics data pipelines including Whole Genome Sequencing, Transcriptomics, Metabolomics, and Proteomics.
  • Signed Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) with the company.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with military and medical terminology and military medical research.
  • Minimum 5 years GLP/ISO experience in industry research.
  • Experience in various cell biology and molecular biology techniques.
  • Illumina DRAGEN workflow implementation experience.
  • Minimum 2 years R Shiny experience.
  • Docker experience.
  • Minimum 1 peer-reviewed publication that includes methodology developed by the employee.
