About the position

The Bioinformatics Lecturer and Lab Manager at the University of Oregon is responsible for teaching and developing curriculum in bioinformatics and genomics, as well as managing laboratory operations. This role aims to prepare students for Master's level positions in various research and industry labs. The lecturer will engage in student mentoring, assist in admissions, and may conduct research to stay current in the field and inform curriculum development.

Responsibilities

  • Teach summer and academic term courses in bioinformatics and genomics.
  • Develop and implement curriculum for graduate-level courses.
  • Assist the director with student admissions and mentoring.
  • Engage with alumni and external partners for internship evaluations.
  • Conduct research to stay updated in the field and inform program curriculum.

Requirements

  • PhD in a relevant field (or a bachelor's degree with extensive relevant experience in exceptional cases).
  • Three years of experience in a research or innovation capacity.
  • Experience teaching and developing curriculum at the graduate level.

Nice-to-haves

  • Research experience in bioinformatics and genomics.
  • Applied machine learning experience.
  • Experience in high-performance computing (HPC) environments.
  • Proficiency in version control systems (Git/GitHub).
  • Demonstrated ability to code in Python, Bash, and/or R.
