About the position

Vibrant Genomics is seeking a highly skilled Bioinformatics Scientist to work with cutting-edge next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology, specifically the Illumina NextSeq 2000. The role involves managing sequencing workflows, analyzing complex genomic datasets, and translating raw sequencing data into actionable biological insights. The ideal candidate will support both research and clinical projects, contributing to the advancement of precision genomics and data analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and operate the Illumina NextSeq 2000, ensuring optimal performance and data quality.
  • Perform library preparation, sequencing run setup, and troubleshooting to maximize throughput and accuracy.
  • Process raw sequencing data through alignment, variant calling, and downstream analysis pipelines.
  • Develop and maintain bioinformatics pipelines for applications such as whole-genome sequencing, RNA-Seq, targeted sequencing, and single-cell sequencing.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to interpret sequencing results in the context of biological and clinical objectives.
  • Generate clear, concise reports summarizing bioinformatics findings, using appropriate visualizations.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in NGS technologies and bioinformatics tools.
  • Evaluate and implement new algorithms, software, and protocols to improve data analysis and interpretation.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for all sequencing and analytical procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Genomics, Computational Biology, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with the Illumina NextSeq 2000 platform or other Illumina NGS instruments.
  • Proven expertise in NGS data analysis, including experience with tools such as BWA, GATK, STAR, and DESeq2.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, R, Perl, Bash).
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud) and HPC environments.
  • Experience with databases and data visualization tools (e.g., SQL, Tableau, ggplot2).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of sequencing and analysis.
  • Familiarity with Illumina BaseSpace Suite or similar data management platforms.
  • Experience in regulatory-compliant environments (e.g., clinical labs, diagnostics).
  • Expertise in machine learning techniques for genomics.
