About the position

The Bioinformatics Software Developer at Fulgent Genetics is responsible for architecting, implementing, and supporting bioinformatics software solutions. This role involves developing data pipelines, managing databases, and creating analysis tools to enhance system efficiency and support business operations. The position requires a strong foundation in bioinformatics, data engineering, and software development, with a focus on delivering high-quality solutions in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, develop, test, and maintain Bioinformatics Pipeline Systems.
  • Research and develop new algorithms and programs to support and improve Bioinformatics system efficiency.
  • Manage data, maintain databases, and perform database administration.
  • Identify, design, and implement process improvements, including automating manual processes and optimizing data delivery.
  • Build analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition and operational efficiency.
  • Support business operations, processing, and exceptions.
  • Design, analyze, implement, and support databases.
  • Perform system administration and maintenance.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Knowledge of Java, JavaScript, Python, and Bash Scripts.
  • Familiarity with databases and SQL.
  • Experience with GIT Source Control, Windows, and Linux.
  • Ability to handle periodic on-call duty and out-of-band requests.
  • Understanding of Requirements Analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Deep understanding of Programming Languages, Algorithms, and Data Analysis.
  • Understanding of Bioinformatics, Genetics, and Biology.
  • Experience with software design, implementation, and deployment of enterprise application software.
  • Enjoy working in a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment on high-impact, open-source software development.
  • Prior experience in health informatics is a plus.
  • Experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS).
  • Experience with BWA, R, Picard, GATK, and other Bioinformatics tools.
  • Experience with Scala, AWS, NoSQL, Statistics, big data, and Apache Spark.
  • Experience with Java RESTful services, JavaScript, and XML; user and design documentation to support open-source products.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum software development methodologies.
