The Biostatistician/Programmer position at The Pennsylvania State University involves developing statistical and computational models to analyze multi-omic and electronic health record data. Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with investigators, physicians, and graduate students to design and implement a statistical analysis plan based on study objectives and research needs.
  • Consult and advise researchers on study design, statistical analysis strategies, determining statistical power, and sample size.
  • Perform quality control on large databases, including genomic, transcriptomic, and EHR data.
  • Provide statistical expertise in interpreting experimental results and integrate complex statistical methodologies into research protocols.
  • Develop, test, debug, implement, modify, and evaluate statistical software programs in support of research projects.
  • Write specifications for files, validation checks, tables, and calculations used to collect and analyze data.
  • Prepare visual representations of statistical results for reports, presentations, and publications.
  • Author statistical portions of abstracts, manuscripts, and final reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in biostatistics, statistics, computer science, data science, bioinformatics, or related fields (Master's Degree preferred).
  • One year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with whole genome sequencing data is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in developing R/Python packages for data analysis.
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics/statistical software packages.
